The awesome that is SKE48's Mousou Deka.
For those who don’t know, Mousou Deka is a 12 episode serialized drama, starring SKE48, that aired from January 2011 to March.
Although I've watched this drama a while back...today, I just thought I would share with you all the reasons why I think this series is a great little hidden gem that SKE48 can stash neatly under their belt.
Interested? Well let's get going then!
Set in an old century-ish mansion, located solitary on an island, this drama takes on a sort of 'Clue' type of theme.
The story starts off by following famed singer, Matsui Rena, who has been invited to be a judge in a cosply contest being held at the large mansion.

After several close-ups of that glorious neck and Rena looking all doe-eyed n' pretty in that fluffy white coat, there is a happening -- a scream from downstairs!

Yes, the owner of the house, Kuwabara Mizuki, is found murdered in the living room a few hours before the contest was scheduled to commence. Awww, crap.
Mild panic ensues until....

...out of nowhere comes a man wearing a simple yukata, claiming to be an undercover cop, and immediately tells all the patrons not to leave -- as they are now suspects for the crime. Dun dun dun!
Now, this is where the series really starts to gain it's charm. Not too long after Mr. Undercover cop comes busting in from upstairs, out of an even more mysterious nowhere appears the best character in the series! (insert my extreme bias here)

Yes indeed, the "Mousou Deka" herself makes her grand entrance and although admitting that she snuck into the event just to fangirl over her favourite idol (Rena), she also just happens to be a special super cop that can solve cases simply using her "mousou" (basically, her delusions/made up stories).
Hold on! Gotta take a break to fangirl over Rena...

So, every time our lovely Mousou Deka suspects a particular patron, she enters a mode where she mentally depicts how the owner, Mizuki, got killed by them. With each case, Jurina's stories keep becoming more and more improbable...and if you ask me, funnier and funnier!
Simply put, this drama is hilarious!
Each scenario is pretty off-the-wall and allows us to see the SKE48 girls in ridiculous situations.
But the thing about this drama that's even more amazing is how it goes from a crazed "Clue"-esque story and transforms into a complexly heartfelt love story about a girl who associates herself as a male, falls into a forbidden love with the family's female servant, and is not accepted by her mother. A complete 180 degree turn on the comedy of this drama!
Judging by SKE48's most recent single, Kataomoi Finally (as well as some previous releases from SKE's Akagumi), the group seems to be really good at depicting such serious and often taboo issues -- and I was pleasantly surprised that this drama took the spin that it did.
Also, assuming that this drama didn't have a particularly huge budget, I think the production crew did an AMAZING job on the filming quality. Skillfully using specific color pallets for the lenses as well as the girls, finding creative uses for simple settings...as well as the girls being all so photogenic, I want to give claps to everyone that worked on this. It really made this drama stand out and mesh with the story/theme very well.
Heck, why am I even still talking?! I should just let the following barrage of images do that for me!
